We are excited to introduce Doc Williams and David Wayne into our Bandera Pro Rodeo family this year! These two are exceptional performers from our very own Bandera, Texas. They have made a name for themselves in Bandera with their country, southern rock and Christian music.
David Wayne is a United States Marine Veteran who has played internationally1 He is a singer and songwriter who also plays rhythm and lead guitar, mandolin, and banjo.
Doc Williams has been a fixture on the county and Christian music scene for over 28 years as an accomplished singer, songwriter, lead and rhythm guitar, harmonica, mandolin and banjo player.
There is really nothing these two can’t do! We can’t wait to have them play for the outstanding cowboys coming through the Bandera Pro Rodeo Sunday night!
These two are available for duo, trio or full band performances of any size but you better hurry and book them because they stay busy!
We can’t wait to kick up our heels to some of their amazing covers and original songs!

Blackwater Holler is the hottest new band hitting Bandera! Band members Wesley Colton, Whiskey Wade, Wade Stevens, and Daniel Phillips are a small town group of friends that have known each other for over twenty years. After fifteen years of playing in bands, both together and separately, they have come together to bring back outlaw country and good old soulful music, drawing their inspiration from their hometown, Bandera, TX.
They know this is what they are born for, they love what they do, and it shows! It won't be long before these guys are leaving their 9-5 jobs behind for a tour bus!
We are so excited to welcome these Bandera locals to Cowboy Camp Friday Night!
If you want to check them out or book them for a show, you better hurry because their dates are filling up fast!
Some may think barrel racing is the fastest event at the rodeo, but they have overlooked steer wrestling. The fastest rodeo event is, in fact, steer wrestling. The world record for steer wrestling is a mere 2.4 seconds which brings speed and strength to the forefront of this event. But what exactly is steer wrestling.
The objective of the event is to use strength and technique to wrestle a steer to the ground as quickly as possible.
So, what’s the big deal?
The big deal is the sheer weight and size of the animal being pulled to the ground. More often than not, the steer weighs as much as twice that of the cowboy and their impact comes at a momentous 30 miles per hour. This mixture of speed and weight makes precision the cowboy, or bulldogger’s, greatest tool.
Let’s talk more about the bulldogger.
The bulldogger is one of the most skilled cowboys in the rodeo. He starts the event on horseback in a box. A breakaway rope barrier is attached to the steer and stretched across the open end of the box. The steer gets a head start and when he outruns the rope barrier the bulldogger takes off with lightening speed in pursuit of the steer.
Next the bulldogger uses impeccable timing and balance as he slides down from his galloping horse and hooks the steer in his arms. He uses strength, leverage and momentum to ease the animal onto the ground. The work isn’t done yet, though. The steer must be on it’s side with all four feet pointing in the same direction.
Join us May 25, 26 and 27 to watch Steer Wrestling up close at Mansfield Park!
Come back next week for another event run down!
Welcome to the Bandera Pro Rodeo Blog!
This year, like so many before it, we will be paying homage to our Veterans and our Bandera roots!
The rodeo is as much a part of Bandera as the River Walk is to San Antonio. The Bandera Pro Rodeo brings life to that tradition every Memorial Day weekend by hosting the only PRCA rodeo of the year. This rodeo is a desired win for professional cowboys across the country, which gives Bandera residents and visitors a unique opportunity to watch the pros up close and personal at our very own Mansfield Park.
This year we have some exciting changes coming to the rodeo! Check back often to see where we are going, and to get a look at where we’ve been!
